National News-Daily Digest: 2 Key Updates
1. WhatsApp launches new feature to label forwarded messages
WhatsApp has enabled a feature which will indicate that a certain message has been forwarded, and not created by the sender. This extra context will help make one-on-one and group chats easier to follow. It also helps you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent or if it originally came from someone else.WhatsApp has been struggling to control the spread of misinformation and fake news on its platform. While this is an issue across social media, it is a more complex problem on WhatsApp as all messages are end-to-end encrypted. Following a strong missive from the Indian government last week, WhatsApp had responded with a list of features it was rolling out to control the spread of messages that had led to instances of violence across India over the past few week. Along with more control for group administrators, the platform had listed the labelling of messages as one of the key features that could help bring down spread of such posts.
2. Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur rolls out project to set up a cow sanctuary
Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur rolled out an ambitious Rs 1.55 cr project to set up the state’s first cow sanctuary at Kotla-Barog, near Rajgarh in Sirmaur district.
Spread over an area of 107 bighas — a land suitable to provide natural living environment and grazing facility to 500 animals, mostly stray cows — the sanctuary will be developed and fenced to turn into a protected area. Till now, the land was with the animal husbandry department and was used for grazing by the local communities.
