David Letterman wins Mark Twain Prize for American humour

David Letterman has been named the next recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American humour, the award granted annually by the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is the longest-running host of late-night TV, is the 20th humourist to receive the prize, which began in 1998.
The Twain prize is given annually to a humourist whose impact on American society is reminiscent of Samuel Clemens, the 19th-Century novelist, satirist and social commentator better known as Mark Twain.
