1. Amendments to finance bills make way for donations to political parties

India Inc can make donations to political parties without any restraints now. The amendments to the Finance Bill, passed in the Lok Sabha have removed the existing cap of 7.5% of their average net profits for last three financial years. The amendments include reduction to the limit for cash transactions to Rs. 2 lakh from the earlier envisaged Rs. 3 lakh for Income Tax. Companies now do not have to disclose in their profit and loss accounts the name of the political parties to which they contributed. Read more

1. In a dramatic announcement, nearly four years after taking over as head of the TATAs conglomerate, Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was replaced by the board of Tata Sons, the group’s holding company without any reasons being assigned. Mistry, chosen as Chairman of Tata Sons in November 2011, has been replaced by his predecessor Ratan Tata as interim Chairman. Tata who had retired in 2011 when he turned 75 will now be back at Bombay House, the headquarters of Tata group in Mumbai in the near term until a new chairman is appointed. Read more
